Oak Harbor High School’s tennis team won its last three matches to improve its record to 7 wins against 8 losses, going into tournament time.
Tuesday the Wildcats traveled to Monroe where they won 5-2. Oak Harbor’s top three singles players, Daniel Hinkley, Scott Donnell and D.J. Dalire, all chalked up victories, with only Dalire requiring three sets to dispatch his opponent. The match finished the team’s regular season schedule.
In doubles action, Oak Harbor’s first team of Justin Peattie and Carlo Gailo lost in three sets. Winning were the Wildcat teams of Gally Galgana and Krenil Dalire and Michael Bezold and Chad Evans.
Monday, Oak Harbor hosted Mount Vernon and sent the visitors home nursing a 7-0 defeat.
At Cascade Oct. 14, the Wildcats claimed a 4-3 victory. Hinkley and Donnell won in first and second singles. Victories were also chalked up by the doubles teams of Peattie and Dan Van Dyke and Galgana and Dalire.
Oct. 9 brought Lake Stevens to Oak Harbor and the visitors dealt the hosts a 4-3 defeat. Oak Harbor’s top three singles players, Hinkley, Donnell and D.J. Dalire, won, but the doubles teams were swept.
Early this month, on Oct. 4, Oak Harbor dominated Arlington 7-0 on the Wildcats’ courts. Four singles and five doubles games were played and Oak Harbor won each one.
Next week, Oct. 23, 24, 25, and 26 the Wilcats will participate in the WesCo North Tournament at Stanwood. Survivors will advance to districts at the University of Washington, followed by the state tournament in Kennewick.
