Thanks to helpers, we made it home

The recent snow brought out more than snow bunnies! On Monday we decided to brave the elements and take visiting kids out to lunch. They are used to Wichita winters, so we felt compelled to show them what we islanders are made of. Who knew road conditions would worsen?

After having our lunch, it seemed prudent to return home as soon as possible. But we couldn’t have done so without the assistance of several good Samaritans. Our sincere gratitude goes out to several NAS Whidbey personnel — including a young servicewoman from New York — who helped push our car as we attempted to get up the Fort Nugent hills. Also, if it were not for the two young men and a very helpful Frontier.com service man who offered tows, we might still be stuck on those hills.

We arrived home safe and sound, but little worse for the wear, due to all these wonderful young people. They are the ones who really showed us what islanders are made of! God bless them all.
