Swine flu vaccine open to everyone in Island County

As of noon Dec. 7, Island County Public Health removed all restrictions on administering the H1N1 swine flu vaccine in Island County.

Dr. Roger Case, Island County health officer, said the vaccines were previously offered on a priority basis to those considered most at risk from serious effects H1N1 viral infection, and to those providing critical infrastructure services to the community.

“To the best of our knowledge, these groups have now received the vaccine to the extent of their interest in obtaining the vaccine, and local supplies now permit offering the vaccine to any who wish to receive it,” Case said in a news release.

Vaccine is also available at local participating pharmacies,

making access to the vaccine widespread in Island County.

The following clinics and local pharmacies are presently participating in the distribution of H1N1 vaccine.

* Camano Community Clinic

* Freeland Clinic

* Island Women’s Health

* Naval Hospital Whidbey Island

* North Whidbey Community Clinic

* Pediatric Associates of Whidbey Island

* South Whidbey Community Clinic

* South Whidbey Pediatrics

* Whidbey Community Physicians, Oak Harbor, Freeland and Langley offices.

Participating pharmacies include:

* Island Drug in Oak Harbor and at Ken’s Korner on South Whidbey.

* Linds in Freeland.

* Rite Aid in Oak Harbor.

* Save-On in Albertsons in Oak Harbor.

* Walgreen’s in Oak Harbor.
