The all-day affair is set for Saturday, March 6, at Coupeville High School. The day starts at 8:30 a.m. with final classes beginning at 1:45 p.m. Registration fee is $4; for another $3, lunch can be reserved. To register on-line go to www.island.wa.edu and click on the “Super Saturday” button.
4-H Quilt Project: Want to help with a new 4-H Fundraising Project and learn how to do something fun at the same time? Join this class to discuss how we should go about setting up the fundraiser, and what kind of quilt(s) we should make. Then try your hand at designing a simple quilt block using fabric paints.
All About Alpacas: With animals on display, you’ll learn all about the care and handling of alpacas, as well as the uses for fiber.
Beach Jewelry: Under the guidance of Beach Watchers, learn how to use bits of shells, rock, and wood to make necklaces.
Be the Hit of the Party!: Learn how to make balloon animals with 4-H’s Paige Mueller.
Bunco: Come learn to play a great party game that’s fun for all ages! Class size is limited to only 12, so you’d better sign up fast!
Cavies?…Cavies!: Have you ever thought about raising a guinea pig? Maybe it’s time you did! This class will give you some basic information about these loveable little guys, and a chance to hold one and fall in love! You’ll learn about how to care for them and where to find one.
Companion Animal Nutrition: Dog and cat nutrition. Pet bird and pocket pet nutrition if time permits.
Cookies in a Jar: Learn how to put the dry ingredients for a cookie recipe into a jar and label them with complete directions for use later. A great gift idea!
Cracking the Case: If you’ve ever watched CSI and wondered if that’s how crimes are really solved, come listen to Oak Harbor Police Chief Steve Almon. He’ll talk about how evidence is collected, how the pieces are put together to solve crimes, and some of the cases that he’s worked on in the past.
Critter Keepers: OK, 4-H is known for horses, cows, dogs, cats, etc., but did you know you can do a 4-H Project with a snake? A fish? A chinchilla? A lizard, rat, bird, or insect? This class will introduce you to some very interesting critters and teach you all about the possibilities!
Decorating 101 – Finding Your Style: Full of hints and techniques to help you find your decorating style. We will cover colors, fabrics, furniture arrangements, and accessories. Time permitting we will have a Q&A section to discuss your personal projects.
Dress-Up for Candles!: Everybody loves candles, but what do you do if you want to transform a plain one into something special? You’d better come to this class to find out!
Farmstead Planning and Management: Learn how to manage a small farm using the “E-I-E-I-O” approach … Environment, Imagination, Ecology, Innovation, and Organization.
Feeding the Birds: Learn about different bird foods, the feeders and birds that use them.
From the Horse’s Mouth: Ever wonder why people check out a horse’s teeth? Do you know how to properly care for your equine’s mouth … and what happens if you don’t? Check out Dr. Moody’s skull collection for some clues.
General Auto Maintenance: Want that car to run smoothly every time you get in and turn the key? Better take this class on how and when to do basic maintenance tasks!
Get OUT!: Ever find yourself not knowing what to do with a group of very active kids? When you tell them to “go outside,” they say there’s nothing to do out there? Join one of our newest leaders, Erin Smith, for this energetic, dynamic class on using outdoor games with kids.
Glycerine Soap Making Class: Learn all about glycerine soaps. Students will be able to choose the color and fragrance for their bars.
Gun Safety: Learn the basics of gun safety in the home, including fundamental safety rules and methods of safe storage. Also pick up information about a possible 4-H shooting sports project!
Hand-made Paper Beads: Learn how to make basic, rolled beads from strips of paper. Once you’ve practiced the basic shape, you’ll progress to more complicated beads, learning how the shape of the strip affects the finished bead.
How Can YOU Help Make the Best Better?: We hear a lot about “bonds” and “levies” but it is not often that we are given the opportunity critically evaluate for ourselves the need for them. Join Superintendent Myhr for a walking tour of the Middle School facility…see for yourself the condition of the infrastructure….ask questions about facility use…..gather the information you’ll need at the next election to cast an informed vote. And remember, even if you don’t have kids in Coupeville, or in school at all at this time, schools everywhere need our support!
How To Dress For A Horse Show: Learn from seasoned horse 4-H’ers how to dress for Western and English horse classes – discover what’s in and what’s not. You’ll be given lots of examples and leave class with great ideas for the upcoming show season.
Introduction to Clicker Training: Need some help training your dog? Have you thought about “clicker training?” Come discover more about this successful technique to determine if it’s right for you and your dog.
Introduction to Tribal Belly Dance: Learn the basics of tribal belly dance – hip lifts, hip circles, snake arms, chest lift and chest slide. You’ll talk about what tribal belly dance is, and how much fun (and great exercise) it can be!
Journals from Recycled Sources: Rejuvenate discarded ringed binders to create personalized, decorated journals for writing, artwork, scrapbooking, and more. Be sure to sign up for both sessions, to allow plenty of work and drying time. Projects will be picked up at the end of Super Saturday. (Two-part class, Sessions 1 and 3)
