Wolf Pack volleyball wins 3-0

The Coupeville High School volleyball team opened the season Wednesday, Sept. 10, swamping Concrete in three straight games.

Aces were the rule and the Wolf Pack scored 31 in the match en route to a 25-7, 25-6 and 26-9 over the Lions.

Julie Huddleston scored 12 aces and Linde Maertens had eight to pace Coupeville.

Netters drop first match

After reeling off three-straight victories to open the season, the Oak Harbor tennis team dropped its first match Monday afternoon, losing a tight 4-3 decision to Stanwood.

The Wildcats won three of four singles matches in straight sets, with Ryan Evans a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Teague Nelson, Jordan Kingma stopping Nate Houde 6-3, 6-4 in third singles and Josh Evans beating Kyle Kline 6-4, 6-4 in the fourth singles match.

Derek Thomas lost to the Spartans Kyle Koetje 6-2, 6-0 in the first singles match and all three of Oak Harbor’s doubles teams came up on the short end of the score.

On Friday, singles players carried the day as the Wildcats defeated Arlington 4-3 for their third-straight WesCo North victory of the young season.

Thomas beat Garrett Mayer 6-4, 6-2 in the first singles game and Ryan Evans went three sets before topping Ari Fernando 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in second singles.

Kingma had no problem defeating Eric McElroy 6-1, 6-1 in the third singles game, and Josh Evans completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win in fourth singles.

All three Oak Harbor doubles teams lost in straight sets.

Wildcats lose to Vikings 1-0

A penalty kick by Kaleen Berg from Lake Stevens was the only scoring as the Vikings defeated Oak Harbor 1-0 in a Thursday WesCo North soccer game.

The loss drops Oak Harbor’s season record to 0-2.

Lakeside tops Wolves 20-6

Coupeville High School’s only score in Friday’s non-league football game against visiting Lakeside came in the fourth quarter when Greg Wendell returned a fumble 23 yards for a touchdown.

Lakeside led 12-0 at halftime and tacked on a touchdown and a 2-point conversion in the third period to build a 20-0 lead.

The Wolves had just 76 yards in rushing offense against against the tough Lakeside defensive unit.

Justin Adams had 54 yards on 19 carries for Coupeville.

Quarterback Jason Bagby completed 12-of-33 passes for 124 yards.

Ian Smith had four catches for 46 yards, Curtis Habeck had three catches for 24 yards and Chase Griffin also caught three balls for 24 yards.

Coupeville (0-2), hosts King’s High School in the first Cascade Conference game of the season Friday night.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
