The Coupeville branch of Whidbey Island Bank won first place in the People’s Choice category of the Central Whidbey Chamber of Commerce’s Scarecrow Corridor 2009.

Businesses and organizations around Main Street participated in this year’s corridor by lining the sidewalks with creative scarecrows.

Bank employees have been participating in the Scarecrow Corridor since the contest’s inception. This year, seven employees, Allison Outlund, Amy Mamkar, Abby Campbell, Gloria Bonnacci, Janice Vaughan, Karie Callahan and Patricia Brunell teamed up to create the bank’s entry, titled “Grow with Us.”

“We have a great time,” Vaughan, who is the branch manager, said of creating scarecrows.

Placing second in the People’s Choice award is the Post Office’s entry “Pirate Gone Postal,” and placing third is Heidi’s Coffee House/Uptown Hair Studio and Balance Body Works’ entry, “Scarecrow Getting the Treatment.”

Heather’s Pet Grooming one the Best Business Category and the Boys and Girls Club won the Best Non-business entry.
