Groundbreaking July 11 for new Coupeville Library

The first shovelful of dirt will be tossed at the Coupeville Library on Saturday, July 11 at 10 a.m., kicking off the library remodel and expansion. The project is expected to be completed next spring, and will add 3,400 square feet to the current library.

Coupeville residents are invited to join in the festivities by bringing their own shovels and helping with the actual groundbreaking.

Voters approved the $2.3 million bond in 2008, which will fund the remodel and expansion. The finished library will be approximately 6,000 square feet in size, compared to its current 2,600 square feet. The remodeled library will include a meeting room, a bookstore-like atmosphere with moveable shelving, comfortable seating, and natural light.

Faber Brothers Construction of Lynden will manage the construction. The architect firm overseeing the design work is Lewis Architects + Interior Design of Bellevue.
