Calm water and a lack of wind Monday resulted in officials canceling the first day of competition in the ‘Ohana Harbor Coffee Whidbey Island Race Week.
Boats left their slips at the Oak Harbor Marina and were lined up and ready to go by noon, but the weather refused to cooperate.
With the water of Penn Cove resembling a smooth sheet of glass and llitle or no wind blowing, race officials waited three hours before calling it a day and signaling the the fleet to return to the marina.
