No one was inside a Greenbank home that was damaged by fire early Saturday morning, April 10.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., firefighters from Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue responded to a fire call at a single-family residence on Four Eagles Way.

Chief Ed Hartin said the fire was burning on the first and second floors when firefighters arrived. It turned out the house was empty at the time of the blaze. He said the couple living in the home were away visiting their children. They returned Sunday.

Fourteen firefighters staffing two engines, two water tenders, two rescue vehicles and two command units remained at the house until approximately 3 a.m. to make sure the fire was extinguish and to conduct an investigation as to the cause of the fire.

A portable heater located on the home’s first floor appears to be the culprit of Saturday’s fire.

“It was a little too close to the heater,” Hartin said.

He said the house sustained fairly significant smoke damage. The fire damaged three rooms of the home.
