Community rallies to help injured

I suffered a spinal cord injury in early August and returned to Oak Harbor in October to an accessible room courtesy of many of the town’s residents. I would like to thank the community for their contributions in making my transition home that much easier.

I suffered a spinal cord injury in early August and returned to Oak Harbor in October to an accessible room courtesy of many of the town’s residents. I would like to thank the community for their contributions in making my transition home that much easier. After going through such a rapid and dramatic change, it was wonderful to receive so much help and support. I couldn’t be more impressed with my new living space or with the Oak Harbor community.

All of the support that I have received from friends, acquaintances, and complete strangers has truly blown my mind. It is this outpouring of support and love that helps to keep me motivated and recovering as quickly as I have been. The Oak Harbor service clubs have been amazing organizing fundraisers.

I would especially like to thank Ron Wallin and Melissa McCumber who have worked so hard to rally volunteers. Greg Goebel and Chris Burgess were incredible as well. One of them was at our house every day and their presence meant my mom could focus on being with me at Harborview.

Thank you as well to all of the businesses who have donated materials and time, to the individuals who attended fundraisers, and to the members of Oak Harbor Lutheran Church whose prayers have meant so much.
