Whidbey Community Chorus is presenting several concerts to herald in spring.
Sunday, April 27, at 7 p.m., there will be an open dress rehearsal in Oak Harbor in the First United Methodist Church.
Sunday, May 4, the singers will perform at 6 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Freeland; and Sunday, May 11, at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Oak Harbor.
Come experience the eternal light of “The Requiem” by Gabriel Faure. The Whidbey Community Chorus will be joined by instrumental musicians for a performance of this magnificent requiem mass with it’s promise of eternal peace, conducted by director Chet Hansen.
The concert will include stunning music by the separate women’s and men’s voices which make up the Whidbey Community Chorus. Two of the chorus members, Cynthia Fletcher and Jim Bailey, take up the baton to conduct these groups.
Joining the chorus for this spring celebration will be the groups Daybreak and Angeli. The women’s group Angeli has been performing in Oak Harbor since 2005.
See and hear the behind-the-scenes work of the musicians in the dress rehearsal on April 27. This will be a casual opportunity to witness the hard work of our local musicians.
Concerts are free to the public but donations are graciously accepted. Early arrival is advised as seats fill fast when this group performs.
The chorus will be accompanied by pianist Shirley Roraback and the Requiem will feature soloists Matt Carey, baritone and Julia Sopalski, soprano.
Conductor and pianist Chet Hansen Harbor is music director at the First United Methodist Church, accompanies the Oak Harbor High School choral program and maintains a private piano studio where he mentors many of our community’s young musicians.
