Molly Larson Cook will read excerpts from her jazz novel, “Listen,” with live jazz by Don Wodjenski, tenor sax, and Dale Stirling, bass, at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21 at Wind and Tide Books on Pioneer Way, Oak Harbor.

“Listen” brings together a female singer from Idaho, a cozy club in Manhattan, the spirit of Billie Holiday and a love story that refuses to end, according to a press release.

Cook credits her love of jazz and “a story someone told me about the night he saw Billie in New York” for the novel, according to a release.

She teaches writing on Whidbey Island and will lead a workshop in May titled, “Everything Else I Know About Writing I Learned in Jazz Clubs.”

Wodjenski and Stirling are familiar to jazz lovers on Whidbey as members of DBJazz, based in Coupeville.

Wodjenski is also an artist, teacher, jazz enthusiast and 33-year resident of the island.

Stirling is a historical researcher, author, poet, tuba player and music collector.
