Marianne Borozny is the featured artist for the month of October at OAK HARBOR CITY HALL. Borozny’s interests lie in capturing natural light, crystallizing simple forms and isolating textures and patterns. Her 10 years as an art jeweler inform the sometimes-sculptural sense of the photographs.

ROB SCHOUTEN GALLERY will feature new works by sculptor Dan Freeman Oct. 7-31. A First Friday reception will take place 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the gallery, located at Greenbank Farm. In his latest sculptures, artist Dan Freeman further explores juxtapositions of form and material. Characteristic of Freeman’s work is the combination of welded steel and stone, and at times the addition of wood, branches and other materials. Several new pieces in this exhibition continue his popular Moon Series, others are stream of consciousness assemblages of abstract shapes.

ARTWORKS GALLERY is featuring artist Barbara Mearing through the month of October. A First Friday reception will take place 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the gallery. Quinn Fitzpatrick will perform live. Mearing’s mediums include acrylic paint, pastels and colored pencils because they have a drying quality allowing her to work at a pace she finds most pleasurable. Artworks Gallery is located on Greenbank Farm on Whidbey Island. For more information, visit artworkswhidbey.com or call 360-222-3010.

Patty Picco is the featured artist at PENN COVE GALLERY for October. Picco will attend the gallery Monday, Oct. 17, to discuss her work. Patty considers herself a “layerist.” Starting with subtle textures of monotype or her own photographs, she combines paint with her own hand-painted papers, and then continues the process with encaustic painting, using a mixture of beeswax, damar resin for hardening and pure pigment for color. At each step in the process she pays special attention to the mood she wants to convey. Call 360-678-1176 for more information.
