Navy could donate alder wood to needy | Letter

Oh the irony of the North Whidbey community well failure article appearing next to the article about the Navy planning to clear 7.6 acres of alders and leave them in place.

Editor,

Oh the irony of the North Whidbey community well failure article appearing next to the article about the Navy planning to clear 7.6 acres of alders and leave them in place.

The Whidbey News-Times noted that the well failure was in a community with not a lot of money. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Navy allowed that community to harvest the wood after is felled? A lot of folks burn alder for heat in their homes and a cord of alder can fetch around $200.

Maybe it’s just too much to ask?
