I was sorry to see the letter to the editor Saturday from former hard-working County Commissioner Mac McDowell.

I have always respected his work for Island County.

In his letter, he states what he believes are Karla Jacks’ positions on Outlying Field Coupeville and the Navy base.

Interestingly, just Friday, I had several neighbors state the same concerns.

Being a strong supporter of the base and OLF, I called her campaign and talked to her campaign manager.

He stated Karla Jacks’ support for OLF and the base then directed me to her website.

Her website states the following: “I will not pressure the Navy to change its operations or flight training practices. I support NAS Whidbey.”

Mac McDowell should have done the responsible thing and checked Karla Jacks’ position papers on her website and not just be a political hit man for his party, repeating lies and rumor mongering.

Shameful.

I will be voting for Karla Jacks.
