Let’s celebrate our real heroes

Numerous sport personalities are frequently being referred to as “heroes.” A Seattle paper once even had an article in which Army Lt. Ehren Watada, someone who is a discredit to his uniform and country, was referred to as such.

As we celebrate our veterans’ service to our county, let me cite two Oak Harbor men truly worthy of the title, “Hero,” one being Army 1st Lt. Bryan Jackson, a recent recipient of the Silver Star for heroism for saving a buddy’s life under intense fire and despite being wounded himself.

The other is Navy Petty Officer Second Class Kevin Bewley who made the ultimate sacrifice while attempting to defuse a bomb destined to take the lives of his comrades. These are heroes in the truest sense of the word. Let’s continually, not just on Veterans Day, honor those who serve and have served with honor. Let’s daily honor our armed forces, for these few protect the many. It has always been that way and always will be.
