In today’s vernacular its is no longer global warming, it is climate
change. In my thinking there is little matter in what you call it, the
process going on is stormy weather or non stormy weather. So as we look
at the current hurricane or typhoon in the tropics or tornado in our
Midwest we get a reality based piece of information which affects our own
basis for thinking about these phenomena. And many of us are thinking
that there is a change in what our own experience tells us because its
seems in reality to be different i.e. more severe. Mr. Gore got the Nobel
for saying it is global warming, but now that seems not exactly the case.
It is now called climate change and we USA people are being blamed for
it. I want to look at the facts that are known about this stormy weather.
The facts are that the energy for stormy weather (SW) is a combination of
Earth surface temperature in any given location, the sunlight that is
impacting on that location and the contents of the air mass above the
location, the rotation of the earth and the moon movement. There are a
lot of numbers generated by the people who are studying these phenomena
which give information but not definitive answers as to what really is
going on and how much of it there is. These numbers are needed for
quantitative diagnosis and forecasting but we, for SW thinking, do not
need them. I am looking at the overall processes.
All hurricanes and typhoons are started in tropical south of the equator
water areas of the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans. These locations are
where the air masses get their water content. The water carries with it
the most energy (about 90 percent) of what is in the air mass. Other gases carry the remaining energy. These air masses are caused to flow in some manner by the earth and moon rotations and the change in air and surface
temperatures resulting from those rotations are producing SW. The amount
of energy transferred in this process is a function determined mostly by
the water content which is set by the originating temperatures of sun and
earth and air and a small effect by the other gases.
The USA is located north of the equator thus has no effect at all on the
origination processes going on initially in the south. The gases have
some variation on a global pattern but all of those so called bad ones
are carried from the USA to the north Atlantic ocean thus having no
affect on SW formation in the south.
As these air movements from the tropics reach land areas the energy is
given up as wind and rainfall so what is going on in the land areas is
set by what is coming from far away location not at all affected by USA.
The general movement is very graphically shown on the news weather
reports and is not mysterious at all.
Conclusion: USA activities have little if anything to do with SW
production but much to do with receiving that SW.
