Highway accident directions doubted

I recently read an article written by Justin Burnett about a teen driver who caused a accident by turning southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 20. And again in the paper dated Sept. 28, also written by Justin, was another crash where a vehicle was T-boned by a vehicle traveling in the northbound lane.

It is impossible to travel north or southbound on Highway 20. While traveling on Highway 20 you can hit all points of the compass but at no time are you traveling north or southbound. Not until you reach Highway 525 at Race Road or at Clinton are you traveling north or southbound on the island. Even-number highways travel in a eastbound and westbound destination and odd-number highways travel in a northbound and a southbound destination. So if you are coming from Coupeville heading to Oak Harbor you are eastbound and if you are heading to Clinton from Coupeville you are westbound until you hit the Highway 525 junction and then you are traveling southbound.
