I agree. The Washington State Ferry system appears to be frequently inept and while newer ferries won’t sink unexpectedly like the old one might, they will probably be uncomfortable and perhaps even unsafe in rough weather. Unfortunately, no ferry, no matter how comfortable and safe, can avoid the cancellations due to low tides at Keystone’s shallow harbor.

Didn’t WSF already propose larger ferries that could handle an increase in traffic and operate safely in heavy weather? Didn’t that proposal include a new deep water ferry terminal that would operate regardless of low tides? Wasn’t there funding available for this plan several years ago and wasn’t it the Whidbey residents who vehemently opposed it, preferring small ferries with limited capacity and the existing shallow harbor that wasn’t in anybody’s backyard?

Now, they are suffering and complaining and blaming WSF for this crisis. Whidbey residents, don’t forget your own culpability.
