If this county ever hopes to pull itself out of the black hole that years of governmental inexperience has dumped us into, then Island County residents have to stop wasting their votes putting people in office because of their politics.
Voting inexperienced people into any office means that we will be paying them to train on the job and paying out even more for the mistakes they make while they train. The simple truth is that they aren’t qualified and shouldn’t have run for the office in the first place.
A good example is the current race for the county clerk’s position. Instead of being held by someone who has five years of experience — and because many voters are ticked off at the Democratic Party right now — the position has a good chance of going to a person with no experience only because she ran as a Republican. What a complete waste of votes and tax money that we cannot afford.
We must stop putting people in office who are not qualified to be there. Politics shouldn’t run any government office; experience should. We must vote for people who know what they are doing, not for some good ol’ boy or gal who needs a job or who belongs to your political party. Inexperience is what has largely made the mess that this county -— and country — are in, and it’s going to take a helluva lot more than training-on-the-job to clean it up.
