Thank you for spreading the word last week with your story, “Lonesome Emerson pushes for Island County tax cuts: I truly believe that cutting taxes now is not only the right thing to do for the economy but it is also the compassionate thing to do for the people.

There were however, some errors in the story I wish to correct. Your writer, Jessie, did a terrific job considering the interview was by phone and I did not pause my speech. Please allow me the opportunity to state the real sentiment.

I have softened on the mental health sales tax to some degree and here’s what was said: “I am not talking about getting rid of the MH sales tax in its entirety.”

I used the sales tax for Island Transit as an example of a measure that I don’t think would get voter approval now if it were on a ballot.

I believe we need to do a thorough review of the cost of deliverables associated with accepting grants. Then fully consider that finding, as we determine the “need” for future grants. I did not say we shouldn’t take anymore.

And as a Camano Islander, when we talk CASA, we are always talking about the Camano Animal Shelter Association. I regret I have not made myself more familiar with the law and justice CASA  program yet.
