The Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team came from behind to force overtime but fell in the extra period 43-40 to visiting Shorewood Friday, Dec. 20.

The Wildcats dropped their second straight game, both Wesco contests, after opening the season with five wins.

The loss to Shorewood was a tough one. The Wildcats trailed most of the game before rallying late, and did it without the help of its best all-around player, Mikhaela Cortez, who was out with the flu.

Shorewood held leads of 14-12, 22-18 and 28-24 at the end of the first three quarters.

Payton Parks was huge for Oak Harbor, scoring in each quarter and finishing with 22 points. Her 7 fourth-period points helped the Wildcats push the game to overtime.

In overtime, Grace Waite hit a put-back to tie the game with 25 second remaining, but Shorewood sank the game winner with 15 seconds left. A turnover stopped the Wildcats’ final comeback attempt.

After Parks, no other Wildcat tallied more than 4 points. Jasmine Ford and Waite had 4 each, Olivia Waite and Anna Jones 3 each, and Chloe Frank and Paige Fortin 2 each.

Oak Harbor made only eight of 21 free throws, going 3-for-7 in the fourth quarter and 1-for-4 in overtime.

Addison Trull scored 14 points to lead Shorewood (1-1, 3-2).

Oak Harbor (0-2, 5-2) plays a non-league game at Cascade (1-6) at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2.
