Showing remarkable consistency, the host Coupeville High School volleyball team whipped rival South Whidbey 3-0 Tuesday, Oct. 1, to remain undefeated.
“These numbers make me happy,” Coupeville coach Cory Whitmore said after the match, referring to the set scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-17 and the positive stats produced throughout the lineup.
“It is not about being perfect,” he said. “It is about limiting errors, and we had very few errors across the board.”
Whitmore also liked the varied attack orchestrated by setter Scout Smith, who dished the ball to different locations and to different teammates. She finished with 25 assists.
“We had a balanced attack, which shows a team effort,” Whitmore said.
Six different Wolves registered kills, led by Chelsea Prescott with 11. Maya Toomey-Stout had 10, Zoe Trujillo five, Hannah Davidson four and Maddie Vondrak four. Smith also got in on the action, recording four.
Prescott “played her best game tonight,” Whitmore said, noting the junior’s 11 kills in 28 attacks with only one error.
Prescott also had six aces and seven digs.
Raven Vick tacked on three aces and Toomey-Stout had two.
Emma Mathusek and Smith produced nine digs; Toomey-Stout collected eight.
