Murphy’s defense shuts down Oak Harbor / Girls basketball

After scoring a season-high 63 points four days earlier, the Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team tallied a season low in a 59-19 loss to visiting Archbishop Murphy in the Wesco opener Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Oak Harbor suffered through a disastrous first quarter. Murphy’s Emily Rodabaugh scored 11 points and Kiana Yesiki 8 as the Everett school buried Oak Harbor 27-4 in the opening period.

Oak Harbor held Murphy (1-0, 3-1) to 12 points in the second quarter but scored just 2 and trailed 39-6 at halftime.

Oak Harbor’s Olivia Waite scored 6 points in the third period, but Murphy upped its lead to 54-14.

In each of Archbishop’s three wins this season, it held its opponents to below 20 points.

Waite’s 6 points led Oak Harbor in scoring. Miranda Wilson had 5, Mikhaela Cortez 4, Jasmine Ford 2 and Sarah Mensah 2.

Oak Harbor (0-1, 2-3) plays at Shorewood (0-1, 1-4) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14.
