Wolves grab fourth in season opener / Track

Coupeville High School opened the track season by taking fourth out of four teams at Port Angeles Thursday, March 23.

Olympic won the boys meet with 102.5 points, followed by Port Angeles (58), Kingston (54) and Coupeville (46.5).

The girls finished in the same order: Olympic (88.5), Port Angeles (79.5), Kingston (54.5) and Coupeville (51.5).

The three schools that finished in front of the Wolves are 2A, one classification above Coupeville.

Neah Bay and Clallam Bay, both 1B schools, also took part but did not figure in the team scoring.

Winners for the Coupeville boys were Jacob Smith (200, 23.61), Danny Conlisk (800, 2:10.96) and Jacob Martin (javelin, 116-05).

The girls received top finishes from Lindsey Roberts (100 hurdles, 16.3), Naika Hallam (javelin, 86-02) and the 4×100 relay team of Roberts, Lauren Grove, Maya Toomey-Stout and Mallory Kortuem (53.33).

Next up for the Wolves is their first home meet in several years when they christen their new track. Mount Vernon Christian, Klahowya, Port Townsend and Chimacum will visit at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, March 30.

Third, girls: Roberts, 200, 28.39; Kortuem, 300 hurdles, 53.87; Abby Parker, javelin, 72-06; Grove, long jump, 14-09.5; 4×200 relay (Ashlie Shank, Ja’Tarya Hoskins, Moody, Natalie Hollrigel), 2:03.93.

Fourth, boys: Battaglia, javelin, 109-01; Carroll, long jump, 18-06.5; triple jump, 37-02.5.

Fourth, girls: Maya Toomey-Stout, 100, 13.61; Grove, 200, 28.41; triple jump, 27-02.25; Lucy Sandahl, 1,600, 6:28.38; Roberts, long jump, 14-06.5; 4×400 relay (Sandahl, Parker, Toomey-Stout, Madison Rixe), 5:00.49.

Fifth, boys: Olsen, long jump, 18-05.
