John Kohlmann (Letters, Aug. 30) is absolutely correct when he says “vote no on EMS.†He has obviously done his research.
Emergency Medical Services is provided increases every year from taxes assessed on new construction and increased property value. These agencies should be able to work within the budget the public provides. As John pointed out, EMS in other counties manage just fine on the same amount from year to year. They get enough increased revenue through new construction and the increase in property values. They don’t ask the voters to increase the levy rate every year. Why does EMS of Whidbey Island think they need even more money than we are currently providing?
They won’t stop the ambulance service on Whidbey Island, we depend on it and so do their jobs. If this levy fails they will have another one in November asking for the same amount we are currently paying, which by the way is more than enough to continue providing the current level of service. I think it’s time the public said no to handing out more money. People on fixed incomes cannot afford to keep giving their money to all these agencies just because the agency cannot live within their budget. Let’s hold them accountable. Vote no on EMS.
