Five new members have been added to the growing list of PBY members. They are Jennifer Brooks of Wenatchee, Dale Conklin of Greenbank, Tibor Lipus, Jr., of Anacortes, Richard T Shell of Kansas City, Mo., and Thomas and Laurel Wilsey Coupeville. The PBY Memorial Association’s next luncheon will be Dec. 10, at the CPO Club.
Mac and Lorraine Bailey of Oak Harbor are rejoicing over the birth of their first great-grandchild born Oct. 30 in Orlando, Fla. The baby’s mother is Mary Jane Bailey Engell. The new member of the Bailey family is Logan Jonathan Kinloch.
Jim and Sandra Phillips called Oak Harbor recently to talk to the Phillips’ koffee klatch members. They plan to be back on Whidbey in the springtime.
Denny Andrews spent a day recently in Oak Harbor and visited his cabin at Sunset Beach. The Andrews family, from Bellevue, will all spend two weeks in sunny California where Denny junior has a condo.
Katie Stanford, daughter of Peggy Stanford of Oak Harbor, was recently named a N.C. Beautiful Undergraduate Research Scholar. She was one of five University of North Carolina Asheville students to be selected for the award, which includes a $3,000 Governor and Mrs. Dan. K. Moore Fellowship. Stanford is a UNCA senior environmental studies major, and is a 2002 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Two local men recently reported for duty aboard the USS Kitty Hawk.
Navy Fireman Lloyd W. Dieckman, son of Carol J. and Byron L. Dieckman of Oak Harbor joined the Navy in April 2001. Dieckman and his shipmates departed to the Western Pacific whole assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.
Navy Airman Jose A. Morris, son of Milagros and Edward R. Morris of Oak Harbor will also be one of the crew members on the Kitty Hawk who will now conduct training exercises with regional allies in the Western Pacific. Morris is a 1998 graduate of Oak Harbor High School and joined the Navy in May 2001.

Western Washington University senior Trista Sandberg, daughter of Paul and Lori Sandberg of Oak Harbor, has been awarded $1,000 as part of a four-year Fredricka Bond Centennial Scholarship for the 2002-2003 academic year.
Sandberg is a business administration major and also serves as the Associated Students vice president of student life.
The Fredricka Bond Centennial Scholarship is a four-year scholarship awarded to a student who shows academic achievement and community involvement and leadership.
