The Coupeville fastpitch team is still looking for its first win as Sultan swept a double header over the Wolves Friday, April 22, in Coupeville.
The Turks’ Courtney Morris fired a one-hitter in Sultan’s 8-0 win in the first game.
Sultan (6-7, 6-6) scored all eight of its runs in the first three innings to pull away early.
Alexis Trumbull earned Coupeville’s lone hit.
In the second game, Coupeville got to Morris for two first-inning runs and finished the game with 11 hits, but fell to the Turks 12-6.
Sultan used a seven-run sixth inning to wipe away a 6-5 Coupeville lead.
Roxy Piechowski ripped three hits, including a double, and had three RBI for Coupeville. Breanna Messner was 2-for-4 with a run.
Morris, who pitched seven innings in the first game and five in the second, racked up 25 strikeouts for the day.
Coupeville coach Jackie Calkins said, “More of our younger players are starting to make better contact with the ball. Sultan’s pitcher was likely the fastest pitcher we have seen this year. Overall we have seen tremendous growth in our team although the scores don’t reflect it.”
The Wolves (0-9, 0-8) go to South Whidbey (1-8) Monday, April 25, at 4 p.m.
