The Oak Harbor volleyball team placed third in its pool then won its bracket at the Mount Vernon Tournament last weekend.

After falling to Kennedy and Lynden Christian in two games in pool play, the Wildcats then swept Sedro-Woolley.

That placed Oak Harbor into bracket play against the other third-place teams from pool play.

The Wildcats captured the bracket by defeating Granite Falls and Okanogan.

Coach Kerri Molitor said the tournament was a “good experience” and that she let all her players share in the playing time. She added that the ‘Cats were just a few points from winning their pool.

Sophomore Taylor Nienhuis was called up from the junior varsity squad to set for the Wildcats because starter Jordan Faralan was unavailable. Molitor gave freshman Kayleigh Harper significant time to give her some “good varsity experience.” She also gave Roshell Muzzall, who normally plays the middle, some time as an outside hitter.

Oak Harbor (3-3, 6-4) returns to league action at Mountlake Terrace (1-5, 3-7) Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m.
