The Coupeville High School fastpitch season came to an end with back-to-back losses in the sub-district tournament at Sedro-Woolley’s Janiki Fields Saturday, May 15.

The Wolves struggled at both ends of the game, mustering just five hits and committing 12 errors in the two games.

No. 1 seed Lynden Christian topped Coupeville 12-0 in five innings in the opener.

The Lyncs took advantage of four consecutive errors to blow the game open with a seven-run fourth inning.

Taya Boonstra’s double and Katie Smith’s single were the only Coupeville hits.

In the second game, Friday Harbor won 14-1 in five innings.

The Wolverines buried Coupeville with an eight-run second inning.

Becca Armstrong rapped two singles and Bessie Walstad doubled for the Wolves.

Coupeville ended the season 3-20, but the future looks bright for the Wolves according to coach Denny Zylstra. He loses only four seniors (Megan Smith, Julie Huddleston, Emma Puharic and Kaylie Kellison); only two were starters.

Zylstra said, “We have a good core coming back.”
