Edmonds-Woodway’s pressure defense caused problems for the visiting Oak Harbor High School boys basketball and led to the Warriors’ 67-34 win in the season opener Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Thanks to Oak Harbor’s ball-handling mistakes, the Warriors outscored the Wildcats 25-7 in the first quarter and then upped the margin to 51-18 at the break.
“E-W is a good team,” Oak Harbor coach John Weston said. “They put a lot of pressure on us and we turned the ball over too many times. They were able to really transition well off of their forced turnovers and finish.”
After intermission, Oak Harbor settled down and matched Edmonds-Woodway point-for-point (16-16).
“We played a much better second half and started to take better care of the ball and execute some plays,” Weston said. “The kids responded well after the game. We know we have work to do, and I think we are all on board to do what it takes to improve.”
Dyllan Harris led the Wildcats with 10 points. Adam Nelson had six, Sean Erskine and Josh Cote five apiece, Diangelo McKinney and Savion Hollins-Passmore three each and Ozell Jackson two.
Oak Harbor (0-1) meets Shorecrest (2-0) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec 4, in the Wildcats’ home opener.
