One lane of the Deception Pass Bridge was closed Wednesday so workers could repair damage to the structure caused by an auto accident last week.

Dustin Terpening, spokesperson for the Washington State Department of Transportation, said that one lane on the bridge was closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to remove a damaged portion of the guardrail that was hanging over the bridge. The sidewalk remained open.

The damage stems from an accident that took place the evening of Nov. 27, when a 2008 Suburu Legacy struck and damaged the outer guardrail of the bridge, according to the Washington State Patrol. Highway 20 was closed for approximately 10 minutes while a tow truck cleared the accident. Nobody was injured.

The Friday evening incident was the second accident in less than a week to take place on the narrow bridge. On Nov. 24, one lane of Deception Pass was closed after a car veered off the road and collided with the cable barrier separating the highway from the sidewalk. No one was injured in that accident either.
