Upsetting second-place Snohomish, the Oak Harbor High School girls tennis team erased some of the frustration of the 2010 season.
The Wildcat upended the Panthers 4-3 Friday, April 16, on the Oak Harbor courts.
Oak Harbor entered the match 1-6 for the season and had suffered through a handful of close losses. The Panthers came in at 6-1 and had a chance to take over first place with a win. The Wildcats spoiled those plans.
It came down to singles play. Oak Harbor swept all four singles matches in straight sets to earn 4 points. Snohomish took the three doubles matches, but it wasn’t enough for the team victory.
Cady O’Dell cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win in first singles. Erin Neilon took No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-1.
In third singles, Laurin Rico won 6-3, 6-1. Clarissa Abadesco grabbed the all-important fourth singles match 6-2, 6-4.
Jordan Faralan and Kerry Rathsabanhdith fell in first doubles 3-6, 1-6.
Shannon Neilon and Alexa Holmly dropped the second doubles match 1-6, 0-6.
In No. 3 doubles, Jennifer Fremd and Darcy Fremd lost 0-6, 0-6.
The Wildcats hope to keep their winning ways alive when Monroe (0-8) visits Monday, April 19, at 3:45.
