Charles Wright Academy punched in three second-half goals to defeat the Coupeville High School soccer team 3-1 in a nonleague match Saturday, May 2, at Mickey Clark Field.

“The boys played well,” Coupeville coach Kyle Nelson said. “At the half we led 1-0 even though we were missing many varsity players.”

The Wolves (2-2, 3-8) close out the regular season with two league matches. They entertain Klahowya (4-0, 11-1-2) at 5 p.m. Monday, May 4, and travel to Port Townsend (2-2, 3-7-2) at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 6.

Regardless of the outcome of those matches, Coupeville has wrapped up a postseason berth. A likely first-round opponent is Charles Wright (8-2), Nelson said.

“If this happens, I like our odds in that game,” he said. “It will be a hard, tough-fought game, but after Saturday, I know our guys could take one from them.”

In Saturday’s match with CWA, Abraham Elenes Leyva scored Coupeville’s goal with an assist from Woody Liquidano.

The district tournament begins at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at the home of the higher seed.
