The North Whidbey Aquatic Club Aquajets had two athletes record their first Pacific Northwest Swimming Championships qualifying times at last weekend’s July Tri, held July 11 and 12 at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.
Mara Powers made the cut in the girls 10-and-under 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:43.03, and Lauren Vagt qualified in the girls 11 and 12-year-old 200-meter butterfly at 3:09.02.
Ten other Aquajets added a total of 19 additional cuts to their existing qualifying times.
These athletes included Jarik Bainco, Irysh Concepcion, Ryan Cuajunco, Tricia Desquitado, Emily Huffer, Kelly Huffer, Marissa Morris, Olivia Tungate, Molly Vagt and Cole Weinstein.
Cuajunco led this group with new cuts in the boys 11 and 12 100 butterfly (1:22.35), 100 breaststroke (1:33.07), 400 individual medley (6:21.15) and 200 individual medley (2:57.55);
Bainco added the boys 13 and 14-year-old 200 backstroke (2:41.92), 400 individual medley (5:46.87) and 200 breaststroke (3:05.15).
Six NWAC athletes set team records including two by Olivia Tungate in the girls 8-and-under division, the (50 breaststroke in 50.08 and 100 freestyle in 1:21.83). Concepcion’s 25 butterfly time of 20.27 was also a team record.
Evan Wilson and John Hu set new team records in the senior boys division. Wilson in the (100 breaststroke at 1:08.96 and 400 freestyle in 4:15.06) and Hu in the (200 freestyle in 1:58.24 and 100 freestyle in 55.43).
Other team records were set by Jerrin Concepcion, Tricia Desquitado and and Laura Rosen.
Swimming 100 percent lifetime best times were Jerrin Concepcion, Tricia Desquitado, Justin Erickson, Joe Gorman, Samantha Hines, Lyndsay Loomis, Rachel Mueller, Mara Powers, Hannah Schroeder and and Ethan Tack.
The NWAC Swimmer of the Meet was 7-year-old Jerrin Concepcion, who finished his second consecutive meet with 100 percent best times, dropping an average of 4 seconds per 50. He won three races, demonstrating great discipline, sound technique and exceptional racing instincts.
NWAC next competes at the Marysville Dual on Friday, July 17, where it will field a team of 12.
