When the night started, four teams were tied for first in the Wesco 3A volleyball standings. When play concluded, two were left at the top and one wasn’t Oak Harbor.
The Wildcats fell to host Meadowdale 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 15-25, 21-25) while Glacier Peak topped Shorewood and Everett defeated Mountlake Terrace.
That left Meadowdale (3-1, 3-5) and Everett (3-1, 6-2) in first.
Now Oak Harbor (2-2, 5-3) finds itself in another log jam, this one for third as four schools sit with 2-2 league records. The top six teams qualify for the playoffs.
Glacier Peak, Shorecrest and Shorewood are tied with Oak Harbor; Lynnwood and Terrace are one game back at 1-3.
Six league matches remain.
The Wildcats will have a chance to break from the third place pack next week when they host the two Shore schools. Shorecrest comes to Oak Harbor Tuesday, Oct. 12, and Shorewood Thursday, Oct. 14, for 7 p.m. matches.
Meadowdale’s front line ripped Oak Harbor with 33 kills to help the Mavericks to the win.
Coach Kerri Molitor said, “Last night’s match was tough. We played well at times, just very inconsistent. I feel like my team is playing ‘peek-a-boo’: now I see them, now I don’t. They disappear for a game, or series, then reappear as strong as ever. “
She saw some positives in the match: “I was happy that we applied some of what we worked on in practice to the game — Jordan Faralan had six kills (as our setter), and Katelyn Bristow reduced her hitting errors and became our kill leader. Kristine Bouchard blocked well.“
Bristow had six kills, and Faralan had 31 assists to go with her six kills.
Bouchard paced the defense with eight blocks.
