Off to a good start in a four-match week, Coupeville won 5-0 at Granite Falls Monday, April 23.
JP Ward started the rout over the Tigers by scoring in the 12th minute off an assist by Brett Arnold. Dylan Tack made it 2-0 in the 25th minute.
Jeremy Copenhaver started the second half with a goal assisted by Ward in the 48th minute. Ten minutes later Copenhaver struck again, this time assisted by Taylor Phillips.
Zach Forland, coming back from injury and playing his first game at forward instead of goalie, finished the scoring by nailing a rebound shot off an attempt by Tack.
Keeper Kole Kellison and the Wolves’ defense recorded the shutout.
Coach Paul Mendes said, “It was a good road win for us. Converting on our first two opportunities really helped get our offense going. It was good to see different players contribute to the scoring.”
Coupeville (5-6, 7-6) hosts Sultan (1-11, 1-13) at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, goes to Lakewood (5-7, 6-7) Friday and then meets Granite Falls (1-10, 3-10) again Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mickey Clark Field.
