King’s continued its dominance over the host Coupeville High School girls basketball team with a 59-11 win Tuesday, Jan. 29.
The Wolves (5-4, 7-9) finish the regular season at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Granite Falls (3-6, 5-13).
Regardless of the outcome of that game, Coupeville advances to the district tournament as the North Sound Conference’s No. 3 seed.
The Wolves will play at 7 p.m. at the Northwest Conference’s No. 2 seed, either Meridian or Nooksack Valley, in the opening round of the eight-team, double-elimination tournament.
King’s 59, Coupeville 11
The loss was similar to the Wolves’ 50-17 setback against the defensive-minded Knights earlier this season. In the first game, King’s blanked the Wolves in two of the four quarters.
In Tuesday’s game, the Knights held Coupeville to 2 points in the first quarter and zero in the fourth.
The Wolves failed to score in double digits against King’s in any quarter this season.
Ema Smith tallied Coupeville’s only points in the opening period as the Knights jumped to an 11-2 lead.
King’s knocked down a trio of three-balls in the second quarter to offset three free throws from Coupeville’s Chelsea Prescott and a hoop from Hannah Davidson to take a 27-7 halftime lead.
Lindsey Roberts scored Coupeville’s 4 third-quarter points.
Claire Gallagher racked up 11 points in the period for the Knights, who exploded for 25 and a 52-11 lead.
Roberts finished with eight rebounds, Avalon Renninger had five boards and three assists, and Scout Smith added five rebounds and two blocks.
Four Knights scored 9 or more points led by Gallagher with 17.
“We played well defensively, but King’s has many weapons,” Coupeville coach David King said. “On Senior Night all three seniors gave max effort and represented Coupeville and our program well.”
The Wolves honored seniors Roberts, Ema Smith and Nicole Laxton before the game.
