Burlington-Edison took advantage of a handful of North Whidbey mistakes to win the opening game of the 11-12 Little League baseball district tournament Monday, June 25, in Sedro-Woolley.

None of Burlington-Edison’s runs were earned in the 7-2 win as North Whidbey committed seven errors.

North Whidbey now has to win five straight games to claim a berth in the state tournament. The first game of that trek is 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, against the loser of Anacortes/Sedro-Woolley.

Two singles and two errors helped Burlington-Edison take a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

North Whidbey got one run back in the bottom half when Nate Moore walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

North Whidbey tied the game in the bottom of the third inning when Holden Jesus walked and scored on an error.

The game remain knotted until Burlington-Edison scored four runs in the fifth inning on one hit, two walks and four errors.

Another North Whidbey error led to Burlington-Edison’s final run in the seventh inning.

Burlington’s Tyler Walker pitched 6.2 innings, struck out 11 and surrendered only one hit, a single by Jacob Figarelle in the second inning.
