Response time is not reassuring | Letter

Recently it was reported that a 911 hang-up call was made from my North Whidbey residence, which was an apparent anomaly in the system.

Upon arrival, the sheriff informed me that he was the only one on duty and that he had to come all the way from Coupeville.

According to Google Maps, it is at least 17 minutes from Coupeville to Oak Harbor.  If this had been a real emergency, I’m not sure if 17 minutes would have done any good to save anybody or anything.
