Mountlake Terrace powered through the singles matches to pull out a 5-2 win over the visiting Oak Harbor High School tennis team Tuesday, April 15.
“I knew the first through third singles would be difficult for us to win due to Mountlake Terrace players being more experienced,” coach Horace Mells said. “In order for us to win this contest, we had to win fourth singles and all three of the doubles matches. We came close but were not able to get it done.”
Faith Franssen was edged in fourth singles 6-3, 7-5; and Chelsea Admire and Alyssa Eden were beaten in first doubles in three sets, 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-2.
Oak Harbor did win second and third doubles in straight sets: AnnaBelle Whitefoot/Hannah Gluth, 6-1, 6-1; and Ellysa Bonganay/Erina Horikawa, 7-5, 6-1.
The Wildcats dropped the first three singles matches: 1, Makenzie Perry lost 6-1, 6-1; 2, Zena Husler lost 6-0, 6-0; and 3, Jamie Estrella lost 6-1, 6-1.
Oak Harbor (1-3, 4-3) plays Meadowdale (2-3, 3-5) at home at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17.
