The initial victory of the 2008 season continues to elude the Coupeville High School softball team.
On a chilly and rainy Wednesday afternoon, the Wolves hosted Concrete in a non-league game and absorbed a 10-3 defeat for the team’s fourth-striaght loss.
The game was a close one until the top of the fifth inning when the Lions (1-1), exploded for eight runs.
“They came down here and played hard, and right now, we aren’t doing a lot of things right,” Coupeville coach Jim Wheat said. “They got those eight runs and pretty much handled us the rest of the way.”
Coupeville responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Concrete scored two additional runs in the top of the seventh to hold a 10-1 lead.
The Wolves’ scored their final two runs in the bottom of the sev-
enth inning.
“The team has to get back to the basics,” Wheat said. “We haven’t been playing very well. We aren’t throwing in the towel by any means, but it’s going to be an uphill battle for us.”
