Wildcats waste Crocker’s cycle / Softball

Oak Harbor freshman Kayla Crocker hit for the cycle but the visiting Lynnwood High School softball team beat Oak Harbor by a touchdown and two-point conversion Tuesday, March 26.

The Royals out-scored the Wildcats 28-20 to take the Wesco opener.

Lynnwood put up a crooked number in all but one inning, rapped 22 hits and took advantage of 11 Oak Harbor errors. Fifteen of its runs were unearned.

The Wildcats collected only eight hits but were helped by 16 walks and six Royal mistakes.

The Royals raced to an 8-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning when Oak Harbor erupted for 13 runs. The big inning was fueled by 10 walks, two hit batters, Crocker’s triple and Maddy Tucker’s double.

Oak Harbor increased its lead to 18-10 with the help of a three-run home run by Crocker in the fourth inning, then Lynnwood scored 17 runs over the next two innings to put the game away.

Crocker finished with four of Oak Harbor’s eight hits, five runs and six RBI.

Tucker collected three hits and drove in four.

Cierra LeGendre had the other Wildcat hit, and Sam Scott recorded two RBI.

Five Royals (1-0, 2-5) had three or more hits, led by Grace DeSoto with four, including a home run.

Oak Harbor (0-1, 2-5) plays at Shorecrest (0-1, 4-3) at 4 p.m. Friday, March 29.
