Coupeville’s win string reaches 6 / Baseball

Running its win streak to six games, the Coupeville High School baseball team won 7-4 at Granite Falls Wednesday, April 24.

The Wolves trailed 3-1 heading into the fifth inning and then erupted for five runs to go ahead for good.

Ulrik Wells sparked the rally by leading off the fifth with a triple. After an out, Shane Losey doubled. Hits by Matt Hilborn, Dane Lucero and Gavin Knoblich, a sacrifice fly from Jake Pease, a walk to Hawthorne Wolfe and an error helped the inning along.

The Wolves scored once in the first inning when Hilborn doubled, was moved to third by Wolfe’s bunt and scored on Pease sacrifice fly.

Hilborn singled and scored on Lucero’s double in the seventh.

Hilborn went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs. Lucero had a double and single, Knoblich singled twice, Wells tripled, Losey doubled and Pease singled for the other Coupeville hits.

Lucero collected the pitching win.

Coupeville 6-8, 6-12) completes the regular season and its three-game series with Granite Falls (2-12, 4-15) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 26, in Coupeville.
