Coupeville’s vollebyall team finished second in pool play and eighth overall at the 16-team South Whidbey Invitational Saturday.
The tournament was divided into four four-team pools, and each team played each other in a two-game match.
Coupeville, a 1A school, dropped two games to 4A Edmonds-Woodway (which ended up playing for the tournament title against Chelan) to open pool play. The Wolves then split with Nooksack Valley and took two from Cascade Christian to finish second in their pool.
In the second round of the tournament against another second-place pool team, Coupeville dropped two of three games to 3A Lynnwood.
Coach Toni Crebbin said she “was pleased on how we played, considering we were playing some big schools and had players out.”
The Wolves played without middle hitter Kyra Ilyankoff, who was out with a knee injury. Late in the tournament, the Wolves other middle hitter, Jessica Blanchette, left to attend a wedding.
Crebbin used Tauni Moody in the middle and called up freshmen Hannah Christensen and Bessie Walstad to help out.
