The Oak Harbor Youth Football Association will have a booth at the Holland Happening event on Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, to give people the opportunity to learn about the youth football program and also give players a chance register for the 2008 season.

Youth football coaches clinic

Are you a youth football coach and you want your kids to be better prepared, have more fun and score more points?

Winning Youth Football is putting on a youth football coaches clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at the Issaquah Holiday Inn.

WYF has been endorsed by Tom Osborne and the clinic speaker, Dave Cisar, has spoken at dozens of Nike and Mega clinics nationwide.

Sign up for hoop camp

Oak Harbor High School girls basketball coach Brett McLeod, his coaching staff and players invite all girls in grades second through eighth to attend a summer basketball camp at the high school Monday through Thursday, July 28 to 31.

This is a chance to come out and work on your basketball skills, under the guidance of the Wildcats’ coaches and players.

The cost of the camp is $55 per player, with a $10 discount if registered by June 1, and includes a long-sleeve T-shirt and a water bottle.

Registrations must be postmarked by no later than June 15 to receive the gear.

This camp is for girls of all skill levels and will serve as a great way to have some fun this summer.

Red Cross golf tourney

The American Red Cross, Island County Chapter, has teamed up with Holmes Harbor Golf and County Club in Freeland to hold the first ever Red Cross Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 10.

The entry fee of $75 per player includes green fee, cart, sit-down barbecue buffet and prizes.

Check-in is at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

Play and win one of the many great prizes that have been donated for this event. All funds raised from this event say in Island County to help provide Red Cross services to Island County residents.

Sportsmans show April 27

The Holmes Harbor Rod and Gun Club will hold it’s annual Spring Sportsmans from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the clubhouse, 3334 Brooks Hill Rd., Langley.

Items for sale will include firearms, ammunition, reloading gear, fishing equipment and all manner of shooting, hunting, fishing and camping-related items.

Admission is $1 and free for club members.

Tables are available if anyone has items to sell.

Local swim club holds tryouts

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is offering free tryouts to aspiring competitive swimmers on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. through April 29 at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.

NWAC is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District that includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from age 6 through college. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke.

The North Whidbey Masters, the adult competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District, also welcomes new members. Team members are age 19 and older, and have a range of ambitions from skill enhancement, to fitness, to competitive readiness. Everyone is welcome.

NWM practices are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays noon to 1:15 p.m. or Mondays Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 a.m. There are no skill requirements other than a desire to improve. Please come to a practice for a free tryout.

Boat fair at marina

The Deception Pass Sail and Power Squadron is planning a boat fair at the Oak Harbor Marina Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8.

The fair is free and open to the public.

Seminars, demonstrations boat safety inspections, childrens’ activities are planned, and there is something of interest for every member of the family.

The purpose of the fair is to promote boating safety and enjoyment while on the water.
