Holmes Harbor gun show

The Holmes Harbor Rod and Gun Club is hosting its annual gun and sportsman’s sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, in the club’s trophy room, 3334 Brooks Hill Rd. in Langley.

Among the items available at the sale are firearms of all types, ammunition, shooting supplies, knives, optics, reloading gear and much more.

Admission is free to rod and gun club members, and just a $1 donation for the rest of the public.

Those having items to sell may rent a table for $10 ($15 for non-members), or you can place items on a consignment table for a small fee.

Space is available outside the club for boats, trailers and any other large items for a $5 fee.

Food is available at the club and the trap, skeet and sporting clay ranges will be open for those who want to make a day of it.

Fall tryouts for NWAC

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is holding free tryouts during the month of September.

Those interested in becoming a club member can attend on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.

Minimum requirements are the ability to swim 25 meters in freestyle and backstroke.

The emphasis of the NWAC is on skill acquisition, physical fitness and fun in a safe, professionally coached environment. Swimmers from 6 to 18 are welcome and the first two weeks are free.

Plan to hit the slopes

Plans are underway for the 2009 ski season at Stevens Pass with Sandi’s Snowbuster ski bus.

The first trip is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Every Tuesday for eight weeks, the bus will leave from the Safeway parking lot at 6:45 a.m. and from the Soundview Shopper at 7 a.m. for a day on the slopes.

The cost for all eight weeks is $225 per person, or $120 for four weeks.

The fee includes beverages, donuts and a gratuity for the bus driver.

Walk-ons are charged $35 per trip.

The bus will leave Stevens Pass at 4 p.m. for the return trip.

A $50 deposit to hold your space is required by Oct. 24.
