Sparkman burns Wolves | Soccer

After a scoreless first half, South Whidbey's Maia Sparkman sliced through the Coupeville High School soccer team's defense for three goals to carry the Falcons to a 3-0 win at Mickey Clark Field Tuesday, Oct. 15.

After a scoreless first half, South Whidbey’s Maia Sparkman sliced through the Coupeville High School soccer team’s defense for three goals to carry the Falcons to a 3-0 win at Mickey Clark Field Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Coupeville coach Troy Cowan said, “This match really came down to my entire defense against Maia.”

Cowan said Sparkman “dribble around” his best defenders in “glorious fashion.”

“It left me utterly speechless,” he added.

With the loss, Coupeville (1-8, 2-9) missed out on a chance to move past the Falcons (3-7, 3-9) in the Cascade Conference standings.

Cowan said, “I am very proud of my girls and we will get back to work tomorrow and keep trying to improve and get better. The Lady Wolves are all fighters with no quit in them. They all love this game and have shown a passion and desire to improve and work hard.”

Coupeville plays at Sultan (1-8-1, 3-8-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17.
