Shorewood spoiled Oak Harbor’s final home soccer match of 2011 by defeating the Wildcats 8-0 Monday, May 2.

After a lackluster first half in which Oak Harbor allowed two goals in the first three minutes of the game and six before the break, Wildcat coach Brian Thompson said his team “played much better in the second half.”

He added, “I’m really happy about the second half; we were much more physical.”

The ninth-ranked Thunderbirds (11-4, 10-3) started nine seniors and two juniors. Oak Harbor fielded a lineup that included five freshmen and two sophomores and that was missing top player Michael Shevchuk who was competing at the national DECA competition.

Thompson praised the play of freshmen Danny Ross and Ben McCornack, who came off the bench to play to significant minutes.  He added that reserve keeper Stevie Bratt “did real well.”

Oak Harbor (2-13, 2-11) finishes the regular season at Everett (6-8, 5-7) Wednesday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m.
