King, Hickey record personal bests
Senior Kyle King ran a personal best in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.84 for Coupeville, and Erin Hickey had a personal best in the discus with a distance of 103-08 at Thursday’s dual track meet at South Whidbey High School.
South Whidbey won both halves of the meet with the boys taking a 71-52 victory and the Eagle girls winning 94-37.
Other first-place finishers for Coupeville were Steven McDonald in the 200 meters (24.24), Tim Walstad in the 300 hurdles (53.70), Brian Miller in the javelin at 153-09 and Will Hoskins who won the long jump at 15-04.50.
For the girls, Sarah Vass was a double winner capturing the 100 and 300 hurdles in times of 19.10 and 55.34, respectively.
Adrianna Royal won the 3,200 meters in a time of 12:10.30, and Kyra Ilyankoff was the winner in the javelin with a throw of 83-02.

Oak Harbor falls in final match
The Oak Harbor High School tennis team ended the 2008 WesCo North season with a 1-15 record losing the final regular season match 6-1 to Marysville-Pilchuck Friday afternoon.
Lauren Ricco, playing in fourth singles, was the only winner for the Wildcats, defeating Sasha Thomas 6-2, 6-1.
’Cats lose another close one
Jessica Kallander had the only extra base hit as the Oak Harbor High School softball team lost a narrow 6-4 decision to Lake Stevens in a Friday WesCo North softball game.
The Vikings held a 4-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning and three more in the bottom of the third, before the Wildcats mounted a rally.
In the top of the fourth inning, Oak Harbor (1-13 league, 2-16 overall) pushed four big runs across the plate to tie the score.
However, the Vikings (5-8 league, 6-9 overall) scored two more runs off losing pitcher Whitney Osborne in the bottom of the fourth inning to win the game.
Oak Harbor battles Tomahawks
A 1-14-1 record is not indicative of how hard the Oak Harbor High School soccer team played during the 2008 WesCo North season — and Thursday’s final game on Senior Night against Marysville-Pilchuck was no exception.
Pitted against the the 13-3 Tomahawks, the Wildcats left everything they had on the field in dropping a 2-1 decision to Marysville-Pilchuck that finished in second place in the league.
“This team is way better than their record looks. That’s about all I can say,” coach Steve Barker said at the conclusion of the game.
The Tomahawks took a 1-0 lead at the 15-minute mark of the first half when Nickolas Burdett beat Oak Harbor keeper Jack O’Neil with a penalty kick.
Oak Harbor stepped things up on defense and O’Neil made eight saves to keep the score 1-0 at halftime.
Six minutes into the second half of action, Brady Ballew made the score 2-0, with a crossing shot from the right side that the diving O’Neil couldn’t tip away.
The Wildcats remained tough, controlling the pace of the game and a bouncing shot by Kevin Flavin at the 69-minute mark got past Marysville-Pilchuck goal keeper Erik Cruz to cut the lead in half.
Oak Harbor had several other scoring opportunities late in the game, but was unable to tie the score.
